YUKA TSURUNO GALLERY is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Tetsuro Kano from January 11 to February 8, 2014.

Tetsuro Kano has been creating new landscapes by combining ready made objects and plants such as seeds and fruits. In the installation called Naturplan series that he has been working on since 2009, uncontrollable elements such as birds are sometimes thrown into the exhibition space. In his world, objects and space are deviated from their original purposes and meanings, and thus our sense of value and recognition will be hung in the air. Kano's works evoke in a seemingly offhanded way, the existence and perspective of a "third party" and
a world that human beings cannot entirely control.

Tetsuro Kano has been working on drawing on paper using masking tapes while focusing on residency-based projects where he produced installations. In this exhibition, a new series of installation Savage Structure that focuses on "the objects as sculptures" will be showed . In this series, he continues to question about meaning and values of things and spaces, by suggesting a new perspective of the world.

Tetsuro Kano was born in Miyagi in 1980. He graduated Tokyo Zokei University majoring in design (Environmental Design/City Environmental Course) and received MFA at the same university. YUKA TSURUNO GALLERYは狩野哲郎の個展「絵か彫刻」を2014年1月11日（土）～2月8日（土）まで開催いたします。

作品紹介
狩野哲郎は、既製品や種子・果実といった植物を組み合わせることで、空間へのドローイングとしての新しい「風景」を造り出してきました。2009年から取り組んでいるインスタレーション「自然の設計/Naturplan」では、時に作品の中に野鳥が入りこみ、人間にはコントロール出来ない「他者」が内包されます。こうした狩野の作品世界では、モノや空間があらかじめ持っていた意味や機能から逸脱して扱われることで、人間にとっての価値観や認識方法が宙づりにされ、普段、私達が意識することのない新たな知覚や複数の世界認識の存在を想像させます。


展覧会について
狩野はこれまで、滞在型制作のプロジェクトを中心にインスタレーション作品を展開してきましたが、それと並行して、マスキングテープなどを用いた平面のドローイング作品も制作しています。本展では、形式上は区別される空間のインスタレーションと平面のドローイングに共通する問題を扱う作品として、「オブジェの造形物としてのあり方」に焦点を当てた「野生のストラクチャ/ Savage Structures」を展示いたします。この新シリーズでは、新たな世界認識を示唆することでモノや場所の意味や価値を問い続けるとともに、インスタレーションでありながら、彫刻としても成り立っていく狩野作品の新たな側面を見ることができます。

作家ステイトメント
絵か彫刻
インスタレーションの要素を還元し、絵か彫刻として提示する。
取り出した要素には手を加えずに注意深く分析し整列する。　鳥や植物の世界認識への想像力を手がかりに、曖昧な、あたらしい自然の設計ルールにそって構成されたこれらの要素をべつの極から見ると、絵か彫刻かもしれなかった。
陶磁器製品やガラス製品などの既成品や植物や果実などの自然物を組み合わせた、複数点のオブジェがる。　多様な素材を人工物/自然物、機械生産/手工芸、具体物/抽象物、有機物/無機物など単純に二極化してとらえるのではなく、元の文脈や機能から切り離し、何らかのベクトルを持たない色彩／形態／質感のファウンド・オブジェクトとして扱いコラージュ／アッサンブラージュする。　それらは明確な目的を持たない純粋な標識、あるいは野生のストラクチャとも言えるだろう。
作品の完成形からの逆算とは無関係に色彩／形態／質感は選択が繰り返されることは理想的な絵や彫刻からは少し遠くあったが、一見、非合理的にも思えるこの方法はいままだ存在しない可能性を持った何かを作るための唯一の合理的な方法でもあるように思える。

作家プロフィール
1980年宮城県生まれ。2005年東京造形大学造形学部デザイン学科卒業。2007年同大学院造形研究科美術研究領域修士課程修了。近年の主な個展に、2011年「自然の設計 / Naturplan」（ブルームバーグ・パヴィリオン・プロジェクト、東京都現代美術館パブリック・プラザ、東京）、2012年「純粋な標識 / Clear signs, Vivid tones」（ハラ ミュージアム アーク、群馬）、2013年「あいまいな地図、明確なテリトリー / Abstract maps, Concrete territories」（モエレ沼公園 ガラスのピラミッド、札幌、北海道）がある。近年の主なグループ展に、2010年「吃驚 BIKKURI」（国際芸術センター青森）、2012年「呼吸する環礁－モルディブ－日本現代美術展」（モルディブ国立美術館、モルディブ）、2012年「庭をめぐれば」（ヴァンジ彫刻庭園美術館、静岡）、2014年「想像しなおし」（福岡市美術館、福岡）など。
